_HISTORY_
Many people consider the field hockey player Major Dhyan Chand to be the best to ever play the sport. Dhyan Chand was born to a Kushwaha Rajput family on August 29, 1905, in Allahabad, India. He was Rameshwar Singh's and Sharadha's son. Two brothers, Mool Singh and Roop Singh, were born to Dhyan Chand. The latter, a hockey player as well, was a part of the Indian field hockey squad that represented India and took home gold medals from the Olympic Games in 1932 and 1936. Father of Chand participated on the hockey squad while serving in the British Indian Army. Chand had a reputation for having excellent ball control and a knack for scoring goals. In seven of the eight Olympics from 1928 to 1948, India won the field hockey competition.
In 185 matches across his domestic and international careers, Chand scored 570 goals, according to his memoirs, while playing internationally from 1926 until 1949. The Indian government gave him the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian distinction in the nation, the same year he retired from the army with the rank of major.
In 2012, India created National Sports Day to commemorate his birthday. The celebration's goals are to pay tribute to the legendary athlete and raise public awareness of the value of sports in daily life, with a particular emphasis on fitness and wellness. On this day, the President of India presents notable sports figures with the Khel Ratna, Arjuna Awards, Dronacharya Awards, and Dhyan Chand Awards. On, Dhyan Chand died.
