Hiroshima Day

This day marks the 70th anniversary of the dropping of an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima, which resulted in the deaths of more than 140,000 people—the highest death toll of any city during World War II—and destroyed a large portion of the city, including a school where more than 80% of the dead were children aged between 6 and 11 years old.

On August 6, 1945, a year after the attack, a second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, a Japanese city. About 35,000 people were killed on that day, making it the second worst strike in history (after Hiroshima).

Every year on August 6, Hiroshima Day is marked to promote peace politics and increase public understanding of the consequences of the bombing of Hiroshima. On August 6, 1945, Hiroshima city was struck by an atomic bomb, instantly killing thousands of people. The Japanese city was atomically bombed on this day, years ago. It was the initial nuclear bomb attack on a city.

The Galway Alliance War in Eyre Square hosts a yearly celebration to commemorate the date on which the United States dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. Every year, a number of events are held to support peace politics through music, dancing, and singing.

SIGNIFICANCE

This day is notable because it emphasises anti-war and anti-nuclear protests in numerous nations. People go to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum on this day to view the records of the Second World War's atomic bombing of Hiroshima.

THE IMPACT

The explosion caused severe infrastructure damage and killed close to 80,000 people. Official statistics show that 69% of the buildings were destroyed.

Japan opposed the United States and its allies during the Second World War. As the allies advanced across the battlefield, nations like China and Japan were driven back. A nuclear assault was launched as a result of the Japanese forces' brutal treatment of the British and American troops.

About 28,000 structures were left after the young kid destroyed all of the buildings within a 2.5 kilometre radius. At a later point, thousands of people suffered horrifying injuries and fatalities.

Today serves as a reminder of the horrific consequences of nuclear war, which have occurred throughout history. The bombing's aftereffects included radiation poisoning, such as atomic bomb disease, which raised cancer risks and caused birth deformities, severe mental retardation, etc.

CONCLUSION

The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) will observe Hiroshima Day on August 6, 2022. On this day, let's commemorate those who perished in the atomic bombing and all other historical genocides. We should consider what we can do to prevent tragedies in the future as well. By commemorating Hiroshima Day and the tragedy of World War II, I hope that we can work together to ensure that such an incident never occurs again.

In 1945, the United Nations deployed a nuclear bomb to the city of Hiroshima. This wiped out 39 percent of the civilians in the city. Read the article to know more about the Hiroshima Day
