Barack Obama

Barack Obama was the 44th President of the United States, if you have a minute spare, check out the article below                                                                                                               Barack Hussein Obama II, the 44th president of the United States and the first African American to hold the position, was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on August 4, 1961. Obama served in the US Senate for Illinois before being elected president. At the end of Reconstruction, he was the third African American to be elected to that body. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009 "for his exceptional efforts to advance international diplomacy and inter-people cooperation."

When he was elected president in 2008, Barack Obama became the first African American to hold office. Leaders shouldn't be restricted to wealthy or privileged Americans, as the Constitution's authors always hoped. Most of them would not have predicted an African American president if they had been subject to the biases of the time—many of them held slaves.

Obama was raised in Hawaii as the offspring of a white American mother and a black Kenyan father. He moved out of the state to go to college and obtained degrees from Harvard Law School and Columbia University. Obama lived and worked as a community organizer in Chicago, where he first met and later wed Michelle LaVaughn Robinson. Malia Ann and Natasha (Sasha), their two kids, were born in 1998 and 2001, respectively. In 1996, Obama won a seat in the Illinois state senate, where he worked for eight years.

He was elected to the US Senate from Illinois in 2004 with a record-breaking majority and declared his candidacy for president in February 2007. In the general election, Obama easily defeated Arizona Senator John McCain, the Republican contender for president, after narrowly defeating New York Senator and former First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton for the Democratic nomination.

In a series of actions that suggested a substantial shift in tone to repair the United States' reputation abroad, which many considered had been severely harmed during the Bush administration,

In addition to proposing a "fresh start" to tense relations with Russia, he signed an executive order banning excessive interrogation techniques, ordered the closure of the contentious military prison in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, within a year (a deadline that was not met), and travelled to Cairo in June 2009 to give a historic speech in which he reached out to the Muslim world.

Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009 in large part as a result of his efforts.

Obama spoke on two occasions that touched him in the final year of his second term: the dedication of the National Museum of African American History and Culture and the 50th anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery civil rights march.

He declared in Selma, "Our marriage is not yet complete, but we are getting closer." He reminded those in attendance at the opening of the museum in Washington, "And that's why we celebrate, conscious that our work is not yet done."
